Microsoft has sold over 60 million Windows 7 licenses, Q2 results

Microsoft today announced a record revenue for the second quarter ended Dec. 31, 2009. Microsoft confirmed it had sold more than 60 million Windows 7 licenses in the second quarter making it the fastest selling. The revenue increase was a 14% increase from the same period of the prior year resulting in $19.02 billion revenue for the second quarter.

Google releases Chrome 4.0

Google has released version 4.0 its Chrome web browser, which it claims has more than 1,500 new features.
It only works under Windows of course, so Apple and Linux users will have to wait about a year before the Chrome browser on their machines is up to speed.
Actually the 1,500 features are file extensions that are created by developers to add functionality to Chrome. Goodness knows how many of these Firefox has and no one considered them as the highlight of a browser release before.

Facebook is big on the mobile web

ACCORDING TO LATEST FIGURES from browser firm Opera, the majority of people using the mobile web do so to check and visit their Facebook profiles."Facebook is now the most-visited social network on the mobile Web," write the report authors. "Unique users of Facebook grew more than 600 per cent during 2009, helping the site surpass VKontakte, formerly the most popular social network among Opera Mini users.

Comcast switches from McAfee to Norton

 Internet service provider Comcast announced that it will be switching from McAfee anti-virus to Symantec's Norton Security Suite. HP to release a 3D printer

AMD releases DirectX 11 mobile processors


ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES (AMD) has released its line of DirectX 11 mobile graphics processors that it claims will bring improved graphics and application performance to Windows 7 laptops and peace in our lunchtime.
The Radeon HD 5000 Mobility series graphics cards are the fastest laptop processors ATI has released and can decode two Blu-ray streams simultaneously, if you're so minded.

Google releases its Nexus smartphone

Google has started flogging its Nexus smartphone that is based on its Android operating system from its own website. The Google hosted web store will sell the Nexus and other Android related gear.
Manufactured by HTC, the Nexus One features dynamic noise suppression, a 3.7-inch OLED display and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

Toshiba adds Cell to its TVs

Toshiba announced at CES that it has added the Cell Broadband Engine processor to a line of televisions.The company's CellTV sets will add media centre features to HDTVs powered by Cell chips like those that run Sony's Play Station 3 consoles. Toshiba said the Cell CPU will increase the power of its TVs by about 133 times to provide sharper displays and enable advanced features.
