300 million licenses of Windows 7 in 2010

Microsoft has projected that they will sell 300 million copies of Windows 7 in 2010, including the already 90 million licenses sold in the first four months since general availability.  The estimate of 300 million copies sold is a fairly high target, but definitely not out of reach for Microsoft, says Softpedia.

Windows 7 has already proven itself, becoming the fastest selling operating system in history, even surpassing Apple’s Snow Leopard market share in just two weeks.  With Windows 7 hovering around the 10% market share level, that number could more than triple in 2010, if Microsoft’s goals to sell 300 million copies are met.

Microsoft is relying on PC manufactures like Dell, HP, Acer and others to push Windows 7 on all their new PCs.  The market analyst firm believes that PC sales will increase by 20% this year.  PC manufactures are estimated to sell 366.1 million PCs this year, far more than the estimated 300 million copies of Windows 7 sold, compared to 305.8 million units shipped in 2009.
